Not sure if they are the "best" but TheScore & Yahoo Sports are my favorites. ... If you search in the Google app for "NHL Scores" or similar, you can hit the 3-dots menu that comes up in the search results and Add to Homescreen.

The Athletic is worth the price if you follow multiple professional sports. It’s quality across the board. Recently deleted Bleacher Report when I got sick of notifications about Aaron Rodgers playing golf.

For pure sports (like network sports) I prefer CBS Sports or Fox Sports. They’re both pretty easy, and on CBS they will allow you to favorite games to keep them at the top, and will show o/u and who covered afterwards.
