Paste is an amazing app (better designed and thought out than any other clipboard manager that I’ve tried) that I’ve been using for years and the $30 a year for a high quality app is not “ridiculous” OP.

There are a number of clipboard managers for MacOS. However, the one I like the most is pastebox. It's unobtrusive, and customizable with out being overbearing (including be able to exclude copy's from specific apps from being managed by pastebox).
