It's always extremely effective, especially with root. Please note there's a new version available in beta - get this one if any. However, please note that App Cleaner, the undisputably most effective part of it, is paywalled.

Luckily, you can get SD Maid SE for free on droidify, and I assume github directly from the developer. I'd still recommend supporting the dev, though, even if the app itself isn't directly worth the price.

After a lot of searching, I finally found a great CCleaner type app for Android. Given how popular it is I am surprised I have never seen it mentioned here. Cleaned out a gig of crap for me and was fairly fast without any false positives.

I have used others, such as CCleaner and it really messed up the phone, SD Maid is the safest app to use. Anything with 'Boost' or 'Optimize' in the name are snake oil, they do nothing and can really mess up the phone.

This app has an effective cache cleaner. Better yet you SEE each cache being cleaned as it happens. Stans of SD Maid keep downvoting any cleaning app other than their favorite. But try it and you will like. Especially that it only costs a one time fee of a buck.

Yeah, CCleaner’s been kinda shady ever since Avast bought it. I switched to BleachBit clean UI, open-source, and no weird background stuff. Microsoft’s own PC Manager is also surprisingly decent if you want something lightweight and native. Definitely worth checking out before trusting old-school cl...
