If you're into Asian calligraphy, Zen Brush 2 has a fairly accurate physical brush model. Speed could be improved, but workable for real Asian calligraphy. It's not free, but it's not as expensive as Procreate.

Not automated like caligraphr. But there are plenty of open source, free and paid apps for creating fonts where imo https://www.fontself.com/ would be the best option for you. It requires Illustrator or Photoshop as well.
